Asteroid bigger than the Taj Mahal to hit Earth on April 1? Here’s everything you need to know

This week, a large asteroid classified as “possibly dangerous” is on its way to Earth, and it will make its closest approach on April 1, but this is not a hoax. NASA is tracking the massive asteroid, traveling at a mind-boggling 30,000 miles per hour.

ReportedlyMore than three times the size of the Taj Mahal, the imposing world-famous Indian structure built of white marble, the asteroid can wreak havoc if it collides with a planet like Earth.

The asteroid, dubbed 2007 FF1, will make its “final approach to Earth” on Friday (April 1). According to NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), the large asteroid has a diameter of about 260 meters (850 feet). In comparison, the Taj Mahal in Agra is said to be about 73 meters high.

No other asteroid is currently being monitored and is expected to pass close by in the next two weeks compared to 2007 FF1. At a distance of about 4.5 million miles or 19.31 lunar distance, the Near-Earth Object is predicted to pass Earth safely.

However, for astronomers, this is still dangerously close, which is why the asteroid is regularly viewed. A year earlier, a meteor lit up the sky in Norway, while a meteor was detected just a few hours before hitting Earth’s atmosphere just 14 days later.
