Location:
Rajmachi Fort is one of the most impressive examples Maratha architecture. It is found in the Western Ghats’ Sahyadri Hills. It is composed of the Shrivardhan, Manaranjan and Manaranjan forts. These are located close to Udhewadi Village.
The inspiration for the name of the fort is Shrivardhan Ganpatrao Patwardhan (a Maratha officer). The fort’s structure has the appearance of an observation tower. It has two water tanks and an iron pole that connects one tank to the other.
Manaranjan Fort
This structure is believed to have been used as a watchtower. Manaranjan fort’s size is much smaller than Shrivardhan fort. It is located close to Shrivardhan fort and has a large rampant and three gates. Manaranjan Fort offers a great view of Karnala Fort. Udhewadi is the base settlement.
This is where the hike route starts. It is found in Pune’s Mawal Taluka, Maharashtra. Udhewadi’s actual location is at the southern foot of Rajmachi Fort. This fort was constructed by the Satvahans. It was taken over in 1657 by Chatrapati Shivaji, the Bijapur Sultan’s successor. The fort was eventually taken over by the Mughals, who remained there from 1704 to 17.05.
This fort was taken over by the British in 1818, when the Maratha forces began to decline. Amazing architecture in Rajmachi Fort gives us a glimpse into the past dynastic periods. There are many interesting features in this fort, including large and high doors, strong walls, ramparts, hidden gates, and extensive ramparts. These specialties will amaze you.
You will be amazed at the other temples located there, including the Kal Bhairava temple situated between Shriwardhana fort and Manaranjanafort. It is the main religious site for locals, and visitors are welcome to seek blessings there. Another attraction is the fact that ancient Buddhist caverns were built around 200 BC.
