Although thick, black eyebrows have been increasingly popular in recent years, brow artists insist that there is no such thing as a universal eyebrow shape or colour. Brows are very intimate. Having said that, it’s crucial to take into account your particular skin tone and hair colour when choosing your brow makeup.
This advice may sound quite obvious, we admit. For instance, a deep-black brow pomade might overwhelm someone with pale skin and hair. Another possibility is that a light-colored powder won’t show up at all if you have a deep skin tone. However, it requires a little more effort than just choosing a brown eyebrow product that matches your hair colour. The depth and undertone of a client’s skin and hair should be carefully considered when deciding how light, dark, cool, or warm their eyebrow makeup should be (more on that in a second). Henna for brows does come in the illusive options.
For instance, those with naturally dark and dense hair will probably look better with brows that are as dark and dense. On the other side, people with lighter or finer hair could sense a “rich, dense” brow in a lighter-toned style.
Aim for tones that are a little bit lighter than the colour of your actual brow hair.
Now that you are confident with your skin tone and hair colour, you are prepared to purchase some brow makeup. What’s next? It’s time to decide if your preferred brow product should be light or dark.
Again, the objective is to emulate the colour of the shadow-cast skin that lies between each of your brow hairs, not to locate brow makeup that precisely matches the brow hair.
If in doubt, choose neutral or cool-toned colours rather than warm ones.
Your skin depth becomes important at this point. I would prefer the brow colour to be less warm the fairer the skin. Determining how much warmth or coolness will complement a person’s brows depends on their skin undertone.
It’s best to lean toward neutral-toned, lighter browns if you can’t discern warm from cold when you’re applying your eyebrow tint makeup; if it still seems odd to you after application, you can adjust for that later. Start with taupe and then, once you’ve added length and depth, pat another tone on top to match your hair colour at the conclusion of the application, much like a cake topper.
The bottom line is that you should select eyebrow cosmetics that are a little bit cooler and lighter than the colour of your natural brow hairs. You’ll have more room to apply more product if your brows are naturally dark and/or dense. If your hair is naturally thin, proceed cautiously and use smaller amounts until you have the look you want.
