Elon Musk Led SpaceX’s New Plane ‘Freedom’ To Make Its Debut On April 19

Freedom is all set to meet space on April 19. The SpaceX’s Crew-4 mission will soon depart for the International Space Station. The name Freedom has been assigned to the mission’s Dragon capsule. NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren stated that the name was chosen with a view to a fundamental human right and the innovations that come from the unencumbered human mind. After conducting the meeting at the SpaceX center in Hawthorne, California, “Freedom” was moved to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida the same month. Here it undergoes final preparations for the launch of Crew-4 to the ISS.

The task of SpaceX’s subsequent but recent spacecraft is to put astronauts into orbit. Interestingly enough, it shares its name with the first capsule an American flew into space. This incident happened more than 60 years ago. The Crew Dragon “Freedom” will make its debut alongside SpaceX’s Crew-4.

The mission includes NASA astronauts named Kjell Lindgren, Bob Hines and Jessica Watkins. The mission would also involve astronauts from the European Space Agency (ESA), namely Samantha Cristoforetti. Lindgren. She is the commander of the mission and was also responsible for revealing the name. She emphasized that the name is taken from American space history.

Previous names of the capsule and how they came to be?

Notably, the naming of “Freedom” marks the second time a group of astronauts have turned to NASA’s past to name the vehicle. The first and most significant Dragon Capsule that launched astronauts to the ISS was called “Endeavour.” Astronauts Doug Hurley along with another Bob Benkhen announced that the name post reached orbit in May 2020.

The reader should note that “Endeavour” was also the name of the Apollo 15 command module. Apollo 15 had orbited the moon in 1971, as part of the fourth in its series of moon landing missions.

Resilience was the name of the second Crew Dragon, which was mainly launched by SpaceX’s Crew-1. This was performed as a tribute to NASA and SpaceX teams who have accomplished tremendously and even endured the mission through the horrific times of the pandemic while keeping the mission going.

However, Crew Dragon “Endurance”, which is currently stationed on the International Space Station, was anointed by the Crew-3 team for various reasons. This involved the tenacity of the human mind as space exploration efforts propelled in unique directions and the historical connection of the name to Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.
