Astronomers have been able to detect an asteroid just two hours before its impact. This asteroid was claimed to be “not dangerous” and rather small in diameter, according to track simulator† Astronomers have discovered this asteroid using ground-based telescopes. This was also only the fifth time an asteroid had been captured and identified prior to its crash. Read more to reveal.
All about the crash?
Identified just two hours after it crashed into us, an asteroid now designated 2022 EB5. The small rocky object struck the planet north of Iceland on March 11. At just three meters wide, 2022 EB5 was about half the size of an average male giraffe, growing to about five to six meters in height. As such, it was unlikely to cause any damage if it had impacted the planet.

The 2022 EB5 was harmlessly burned in the atmosphere and it is not known whether any remnant fragments remained intact. Some in Iceland have reported hearing a thump or seeing a flash of light around this time. The International Meteor Organization will investigate these matters further and seek testimony from anyone who may have seen anything related to the sighting.
Hazards Caused by Asteroids
Asteroids are potentially one of the most dangerous natural disasters the planet could face, especially since there is currently no immediate way to stop them.
Asteroids larger than 300 meters wide, such as the asteroid Apophis, could destroy an entire continent. An asteroid more than a kilometer wide – such as 138971 (2001 CB21), which flew past Earth in early March and caused a global disaster.
