China’s Yutu 2 has done considerably well when lunar explorations are taken into account. Yutu 2 has just completed three years of service on the moon. In a recent development published by space.com, it informed about some remarkably good images captured by the rover. Read to know all about it.
What are the findings?
The new images released by an agency called our space, a Chinese-language science outreach channel associated with the China National Space Administration, one image offers a panoramic view looking back at Yutu 2’s most recent tracks, with the Chang’e 4 lander far in the distance visible. Yutu 2 landed on the far side of the moon in January 2019, atop the Chang’e 4 lander, making the pair the first spacecraft to land and operate in the moon’s hidden hemisphere.

Yutu-2 is the robotic lunar rover component of CNSA’s Chang’e 4 mission to the moon, launched on December 7, 2018 at 6:23 PM UTC, orbiting the moon on December 12, 2018 before making the first soft landing. the far side of the Moon on January 3, 2019. Yutu-2 is currently operational as the most long-lived lunar rover and is also the first lunar rover to traverse the far side of the Moon.

As of January 2022, Yutu-2 had traveled a distance of more than 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) along the moon’s surface. After landing, the lander extended a ramp to send the Yutu-2 rover (literally, “Jade Rabbit”) to the lunar surface. The rover measures 1.5 x 1.0 x 1.0 m (4.9 x 3.3 x 3.3 ft) and has a mass of 140 kg (310 lb).
